The Eye Clinic of the University Hospital Zurich (USZ) is a long‑standing department with more than 150 years of experience in diagnosing and treating eye diseases and injuries for patients of all ages. It offers comprehensive ophthalmic care, ranging from routine consultations to complex surgical interventions. A key focus of the clinic is pediatric ophthalmology, which is highlighted as one of its major specialties alongside adult care. The clinic provides expert treatment for cataracts (both green and gray), corneal and retinal disorders, neuro‑ophthalmology, as well as conditions affecting the orbit, eyelids, and tear ducts. Dedicated specialists are available for each of these subspecialties. The clinic operates a 24‑hour emergency service, handling both conservative and surgical eye emergencies every day of the year. Urgent cases such as retinal detachments, severe eye injuries, and serious infections are prioritized for rapid surgical intervention, often within a few hours, even on weekends and holidays. In addition to patient care, the Eye Clinic is actively involved in research, education, and professional training. It conducts internationally competitive research projects aimed at preserving and improving vision, and it provides teaching and training opportunities for medical students, ophthalmology residents, and fellows.
